• CHOIR/MUSICAL THEATRE GRADING POLICY 2017-2018

    Participation grades

A student will receive a minimum of 3  grades per grading period.  A grade will be taken on class participation as well as assignments (memorizing lines or music, improving the voice by singing on pitch, using proper posture as well as technique).  The participation grade will be taken during class.  The director will check students on an individual basis as needed or if a student wishes to challenge a participation grade given.

    PERFORMANCE GRADES

Performances are MANDATORY, NO EXCEPTIONS.  An unexcused missed performance will drop a student’s grade by two letter grades.  A doctor’s excuse presented to the director no later than two weeks after the missed performance will make that student eligible for alternate grading.  THIS IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY!

    The alternate grading will be:

A private performance by the student of the missed performance Literature for the director, as well as a ten page typed report on a musical topic or composer assigned by the director.

***THE STUDENT ATTEMPTING THE ALTERNATE GRADING WILL HAVE THE POSSIBILITY OF REGAINING HIS OR HER ENTIRE GRADE.

    PERFORMANCE DATES

Performance dates will be given no less than one month prior to the event.  If a last minute performance does arise, students will be able to sign-up for the performance.  A student’s signature will put into affect the grading policy above.  Proper concert etiquette as outlined by the director is part of the concert grade.

    PERFORMANCE PROCEDURES

Students will be given a time prior to the beginning of the performance to prepare/rehearse for the performance.  Students should sign-in at the appointed

Time.  Students participating in a performance group have the responsibility to assist with equipment loading, moving, set-up and break down.  This is 50% of the performance grade.  Learning how to set-up  the stage and break down the stage is part of “BEING IN THE SPOTLIGHT”!
