Mrs. Gigi Parsons, Department Head

Mrs. Gigi Parsons began teaching Biology and Human Anatomy at GHS in 2005. Before becoming a teacher, Mrs. Parsons worked in hospital and nursing home settings as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. She graduated Cum Laude from Wallace State College and passed her state board test in 1999. After working in the Huntsville area until 2003, she went back to college at Alabama A & M University to earn a B.S. in Secondary Education. Mrs. Parsons graduated with honors in 2005. She lived in South Carolina before settling in Alabama in 1997. Mrs. Parsons is married with two grown children. Mrs. Parsons teaches 9th grade Biology, pre-AP Biology, AP Biology and Human Anatomy. She is the Head of the Science department at GHS. Currently she attends the University of Alabama and is seeking her Masters degree in Secondary Education for Biology.

Ms. Dawn Alves

Ms. Dawn Alves graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Microbiology.  She did her Medical Technology training at Carraway Methodist School of Medical Technology.  She then received a Master of Secondary Education, (Specialty Science) from Jacksonville University.  She has lived in Guntersville Alabama for 33 years.  Ms. Alves was raised in a Military family and has lived all over the world.  She has three children: Clark, Will, and Mallory. In her spare time she loves to paint, play cards, watch NCIS, cook and play candy crunch

Her philosophy about Education and Life:  “The important thing in life is the journey not the destination. “ I believe that we must endow the future generation with as much knowledge and experience , so they are successful in their life whatever it may be.

Mr. Jimmy Latta

Jimmy Latta has been teaching science at Guntersville High School since the 2005-06 school year. He received a Bachelors Degree in Agronomy and Soils--Turf Management from Auburn University in 1996 and also has a Master's Degree in Secondary Education--General Science from Jacksonville State University. 

In addition to teaching Physical Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science, and Biology he has also coached girls basketball at GMS, varsity softball, and is currently the head boys golf coach and head girls volleyball coach. Guntersville Boys Golf won the 2013 Class 4A State Championship and finished State Runner Up in 2014.  The Wildcat Volleyball team won 3 consecutive State Championships from 2009-2011 and has finished State Runner-Up 3 times and finished in the final four two other times since 2008.
